A very brief look
In 1816, Captain Caleb Fellows who had served in the British East India Company, came to Indiana to create a settlement on the banks of the White river. He decided to name it Hindostan after the good fortune he experienced in India. Little did he know it would be a an unfortunate enterprise.
Today Hendostan Falls is a rural area, much like always had been.
I did not realize the history of this area while we were exploring at the time. We found a old cemetery in someone’s cow pasture.
A lot of the stones were sunk in the earth or shattered.
We even found a geocache in this particular cemetery. If you’ve never heard of geocaching, it’s where you get GPS coordinates and look for a hidden box or container with a notebook. Then once you find it you leave your name and date.
It was very flooded in the area while we were there and many roads were blocked by high water. We even missed out on the falls so we will definitely be back to do a more thorough exploration.
My dad used to talk about Hindostan Falls. I’ve probably been there and don’t remember. It’d only 3.3 miles from where he grew up.
